Mermet Springs is an 8.5 acre spring-fed quarry located deep in Southern Illinois (only 2 hours drive from Clarksville). This is an excellent boat, night and wreck diving training site.
The water visibility at Mermet Springs is good and can range from 15 feet to over 60 feet. Water temperature varies with the Midwest seasons and ranges to the low 40s at depth during winter, to the mid 80s above the thermocline in the summer. Mermet Springs offers submerged training platforms, easy entry docks, dives from 15 to 120 feet in depth, and numerous sunken treasures to explore, from airplanes (727 & Cessnas) to buses. Marine life includes bluegill, sauger, turtles, spotted or "Kentucky" bass, the elusive fresh water jellyfish and spoonbill catfish. This is a dive site that you and the entire family can enjoy. Camp sites (tent & RV) are available. A dive certification card is required and the diver daily use fee is $25.00.
