About the Course

The Advanced Open Water Diver course helps you increase your confidence and build your scuba skills so you can become more comfortable in the water. This is a great way to get more dives under your belt while expanding your knowledge under the supervision of your Instructor. This course builds on what you've learned already and develops new skills by introducing you to new activities and new ways to have fun scuba diving.

You'll hone your skills by completing five adventure dives that introduce you to:

  • Peak Performance Buoyancy
  • Underwater Navigation
  • Deep Water Diving (typically anywhere from 60-100 feet)
  • An introduction to two more Adventure Dives of your choice (Search & Recovery and Wreck)

The Fun Part: Your Choice

Another reason you'll love the Advanced Open Water Diver course is that you and your instructor have the freedom to choose from 15 types of Adventure Dives to complete your course. You can try your hand at Digital Underwater Photography, Wreck Diving, Night Diving, Search and Recovery, and much more!

Prerequisites

To take this course, you must be:

  • An Open Water Diver (or qualifying certification from another training organization)
  • 15 years old (12 for Junior Advanced Open Water Diver)
  • Return the completed Medical Statement and, if needed, have a physician's approval for diving prior to any water sessions

What You Learn

The knowledge and skills you acquire in the Advanced Open Water Diver course vary with your interests and the Adventure Dives you have, but include:

  • Practical aspects of deep diving
  • Physiological effects of deeper scuba diving.
  • More ways to use your underwater compass
  • How to navigate using kick-cycles, visual landmarks, and time
  • How to better use your dive computer.
  • And much, much more, depending on the Adventure Dives you choose

What's Included?

  • Advanced Diver book (or eLearning) and slate
  • Speciality equipment for dives
  • Advanced Diver certificate

Diver Must Provide

  • Surface marker, whistle, and underwater slate and pencil
  • Snorkeling equipment (mask, fins, boots, and snorkel)
  • Scuba equipment (BCD, regulator, exposure suit, or any speciality equipment); this can be owned by the diver or rented
  • Park or dive site fees

Your Next Adventure

There are dozens of specialties offered to certified divers looking to expand their skillset. Specialty certifications can unlock a world of possibilities and even new dive sites through wreck diving, diving in cold water with a drysuit, cavern diving, and more!

After sampling a specialty in the Advanced Open Water Course, take the specialty course to obtain the certification. If you are pursuing a specialty that you tried as one of your Adventure Dives, that dive will even count towards your specialty certification!
