Overview

Located 2 hours from Clarksville, Mermet Springs is an 8.5 acre spring-fed quarry located in Massac County, Illinois. Depths range from 15 to 120 feet featuring fully submerged training platforms, entry docks for easy access, and several underwater attractions to explore and train with. Visibilty at Mermet Springs ranges from 15 feet to 60 feet, and water temperature varies by season. Temperatures are typically in the low 40s during the winter and reach the mid 80s above the thermocline in the summer months. Ammenities include heated showers, restrooms, camp sites, and pavillions are available with reservation. Feeling hungry? Swing by the Snack Shack for some post-dive refreshments! Divers are required to complete the site release form, as well as provide proof of certification. Admission is $25 per diver.

Underwater Features

The various sunken treasures at this site make it an excellent boat, night, and wreck diving training site. Divers have the opportunity to explore airplanes (including a 727 ands several Cessnas), a human-powered pedal submarine, an ambulance, a fire truck, and much more. Aside from the attractions it offers, this dive site gives divers the chance to encounter marine life such as bluegill, spoonbills, turtles, albino catfish, and freshwater jellyfish.
